Solenoid is suitable for long and narrow samples because of its uniform axial magnetic field. 

On this premise, compared with coil, magnetic field can be made higher and the volume can be smaller. 

It can be used to generate standard magnetic field, judge magnetic shielding effect, simulation experiment of electromagnetic interference, calibration of Hall probe and various magnetometers, study of biological magnetic field and study of material magnetic properties.
